Ronald Reagan High School boasts the largest choir program in San Antonio’s Northeast Independent School District with over 250 students in 8 award-winning choirs. Reagan choirs have been “Sweepstakes” winners at UIL competitions for 21 consecutive years. In 2019, Reagan Choir competed at the Leonardo da Vinci Choral Festival in Florence, Italy where they placed first in the University and Youth Choirs division and were named Grand Prix Champions for best in festival. Reagan choirs also won the 2017 Texas Madrigal and Chamber Choir Festival and “Best Vocal Performance” at the 2018 Margaret Tobin FAME Awards.
VOCALIBRE
VocaLibre is an entry level class for girls and boys who have never been in choir or need additional help building foundational skills of singing, reading music, and good choral techniques. Performance opportunities are offered through class recitals and concerts. Grades 9-12; Females and males.
TREBLE CHOIR
Treble Choir is a non-varsity girls’ choir for all freshmen coming from middle school choir programs and upper classmen with limited choral experience. The group competes as a non-varsity choir at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Competition. Grades 9-12; Females.
CANTUS
Cantus is the non-varsity boys’ choir for all freshmen coming from middle school choir programs and upper classmen with limited choral experience. Members of this class who meet the requirements combine with the varsity level boys in the spring semester to compete at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Competition as a varsity mens’ choir. Grades 9-12; Males.
BEL CANTO
Bel Canto is a varsity girls’ choir for advanced singers with strong singing and sight-reading skills. This group competes as a varsity choir at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Competition. Grades 10-12; Females.
KANTOREI
Kantorei is a varsity mixed choir for highly advanced upperclassmen designed as a college-level class for students serious about studying music. The group competes at The Celebration of Excellence in Houston and as a varsity mixed choir at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Competition. Grades 10-12; Females and males.
CHAMBER SINGERS
The Reagan Chamber Singers are a varsity mixed choir for highly advanced upperclassmen designed as a college-level class for students serious about studying music. The group competes at the Texas Madrigal Festival and as a varsity mixed choir at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Competition. Grades 10-12; Females and males; 26 singers.
CHANTEZ NOUVELLE
Chantez Nouvelle is a contemporary pop a cappella girls’ ensemble. The class allows students to explore their pop voices, to cultivate their ears in improvisational technique, and to promote the growth of contemporary a cappella music. The group performs in the community, especially during the holiday. Students must also be in Bel Canto, Kantorei, or Chamber Singers. Grades 10-12; Females; 24-30 singers.
SOUNDSATIONS!
Soundsations! is a mixed show choir specializing in musical theatre, vocal jazz, and pop. The class focuses on singing, dancing, and movement and is a good choir for those interested in musical theatre. The group performs in the community, especially during the holidays. Students must also be in Bel Canto, Kantorei, or Chamber Singers. Grades 10-12; Females and males; 20-28 singers.
